The postmenopausal years are those that occur after menopause. A woman is considered postmenopausal once she has not had her period for over a year. During this stage, menopausal symptoms can dissipate for some women, but these symptoms can continue to linger for others.
Over the years I have consulted a number of patients who have experienced symptoms up to 10 years after the day. One patient, a 74 year old woman, was still suffering from her menopause symptoms and wanted to know if this was normal. It’s certainly not abnormal. In addition, the lower levels of oestrogen can increase the risk of heart disease and osteoporosis.
