Did you know, three-quarters of women say they crave chocolate particularly before their period and it gets worse as they enter the menopause!

How to curb your chocolate cravings

If you’re having trouble controlling yourself when it comes to chocolate, I want to tell you about 4 ways to curb your chocolate cravings during menopause.

Here’s how to do it…

  • Eat a wholesome diet to keep your sugar levels low

Peaks and dips in your blood sugar levels can lead to cravings.  If you want to get back in the driving seat, you need to make sure you’re eating wholesome food little and often to keep your blood glucose levels on an even keel.

  1. Make sure you’re getting the right nutrients and vitamins

During the menopause, it’s essential to make sure that your levels of nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and the trace mineral chromium are all at good levels.  When they’re low it’s very easy for your blood glucose levels to be all over the place.  If you aren’t getting enough of these essential minerals and vitamins I recommend you find the right supplements that are rich in the nutrients you are lacking.

  1. Eat foods that are intrinsically sweet

Another tip is to make sure you include intrinsically sweet food in your diet.  This includes foods such as organic dried fruit and other natural sweet things such as fruit that can help with your sugar cravings. There are lots of yummy sweet things that you have apart from chocolate, so find what works for you. Make sure your cupboards are stocked up with alternative foods while you’re giving up the chocolate.

  1. Make sure you have snacks little and often to curb cravings

The best way to curb your chocolate cravings is to make sure you are eating the right foods at the right times to eliminate hunger.  Make sure you’ve got a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. I recommend something wholesome like almonds, or naturally sweet like grapes.
