In a series of surveys of thousands of women my team and I conducted over the past year, we established that 79% report experiencing difficulty having an orgasm and over two-thirds of the women were suffering with vaginal dryness. No surprising that sex isn’t in the forefront of their minds, as it often really hurts.
I have worked with thousands of women who suffer from vaginal dryness over the years, most of whom were unable to have sexual intercourse any longer with their partners when we first met and I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way, instead we can put comfortable sex back on the menu.
Why is it that then that so many women suffer in silence and have no clue that they can rejuvenate their tissues naturally, getting back to feeling switched on below the waist. Let’s look at what’s going on in the body at this life stage to better understand the challenge. As we enter perimenopause, those 5 years around the time of the menopause, our ovaries wind down and eventually stop functioning. The oestrogen receptors in the cells remain empty when there is little circulating oestrogen, resulting in a reduced number of mucus producing cells. This causes the walls of the vagina to thin and lack natural lubricant resulting in dryness and discomfort. Many women experience irritation making it difficult, and often painful, to engage in sexual intercourse with their partner.
Understandably this can leave a woman feeling very turned off, believing her sex life is over. But the good news is that there are solutions. You can get back to feeling sexy and lubricated, once again able to enjoy being intimate with your partner.
Sabrina is one of the women who took part in my 6-week Boot Camp earlier this year. When we met she was sad to admit that she suffered from vaginal dryness which was ruining her sex life. Sexual intercourse was so painful for her, she said it felt like she was being cut by a knife! It made her feel angry as she felt too young to be living without enjoyable sex. And indeed, painful sex can be very scary. It’s more like mercy sex as women brace themselves, knowing what’s coming, for the sake of satisfying their partner.
Sabrina was at the end of her tether. She couldn’t stand the discomfort or the impact it had on her loving relationship with her husband so was determined to find a solution. When she came to me I explained what was going on in her body and got her started on a programme to boost her nutrient levels to promote normal hormone function and taught her how to consume naturally occurring oestrogen to fool her brain into thinking she had normal circulating oestrogen.
As well as making dietary and lifestyle changes, I also recommended a natural supplement shown to help restore the vaginal environment. Pharma Nord’s Omega 7 SBA24 which contains berries and seeds from the Sea Buckthorn tree has been shown in clinical trials to help to repair and nourish vaginal tissues, effectively turning back the biological clock.
“I heard about Omega 7 through Maryon’s Boot Camp. Even though I was really sceptical about it, I was willing to try it because I was looking for something natural. I started to notice a difference about 6-8 weeks in!
The biggest difference I noticed was that I didn’t have the itching on the outside of my vagina like before and it was much more enjoyable having sex with my husband. I’ve been taking Omega 7 for about 6 months now and even though I’m 56, I feel very young and vibrant. I feel great.
I know it works because if I’ve gone on holiday or if I haven’t taken it for a short period of time I can really tell the difference.”
At midlife and beyond, Vaginal dryness is one of the best kept secrets. Many women don’t even talk to their best friend. It saddens me greatly that there is so little awareness about Mother Nature’s great solutions to restore comfort and enjoyable relationships in the bedroom. With the right knowledge it can be a whole new beginning rather than the devastating end of life as we knew it.
