Men coping with Menopause. I’ve been rejecting men on a daily basis for many months, something I never dreamed I would do, but today I have decided to call a halt to it. Instead of turning my back on the men who are living with menopausal women, I’m focussing on helping men to understand what women are going through at this life stage, and the kind of support needed to help get back the woman they fell in love with.
Since opening the doors of my Facebook Group Making the Midlife Switch less than a year ago, women have been journeying with me learning how to reclaim their wellbeing. I have not only attracted over 20,000 women, but it has also sparked interest amongst large numbers of men.
Whilst the women are struggling with the nightmarish symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause, their husbands and partners are understandably feeling bewildered by the challenging behaviour and lack of spark.
Why wouldn’t men be confused about all that their partners’ menopause brings to their lives when women themselves are so often thrown by this life stage? Seeing the woman you fell for struggle to keep a grip on life as she knew it and, in many cases, appear like her body has been possessed by an alien, can be extremely disconcerting if not scary.
Overwhelmed by thermal surges by day and by night, dripping with perspiration, dreading another night of insomnia, many women at the time of the menopause are also suffering with severe panic attacks and palpitations, aches and pains that stop them in their tracks as well as fatigue making them feel like they have been hit by a train. Â They feel isolated and often afraid to communicate with their partners for fear of alienating them further.
Sex drive is one of the first things to leave the building during menopause because women default to what I call ‘Economy Mode’ due to low levels of nutrients and diminished circulating oestrogen; it follows that men might also be interested in finding a solution.
Having helped tens of thousands of women successfully overcome their symptoms for more than 25 years without using drugs or hormones, I decided to call time on the mystery and ignorance that men suffer when their wife or partner is going through their menopause. Knowing that a little knowledge goes a long way, I’m asking men to take part in a survey so that I can quantify their concerns as well as the knowledge gap. In exchange, I’m offering them a new download Every Man’11s Guide to Menopause which includes 5 things women would like them to know about menopause and a dozen things they can do to help get back the girl they married.
Please encourage the men in your life to join my new Facebook group, just for them Men-O-Pause.
